QUESTION 1

What is your favourite colour & why?

Green - especially greens that remind me of woodland and nature, hopeful, fresh and inspiring. I don’t actually wear much green but I love to see it, feel it and experience it.

QUESTION 2

What are you working on at the moment that you find exciting?

I’m developing a line of T-shirts that combine my love of words with fashion - I find it exciting but agonising! I want to get everything just right, fit, cut, style, font, and how to pick from my many sayings and musings etc. The desire for perfection I find slows me down but I’m excited that when they are finally released, I think they will fully embody all sides of me and that will be particularly fulfilling creatively.

QUESTION 3

I love how you are taking appointments in your showroom in Notting Hill. What inspired you to offer this in addition to your pop-ups?

The appointments at my showroom are often where the magic happens. I’ve been told it’s less of a shopping experience and more of a discovery. In the comfort of a glorified dressing up box with me to encourage, you end up trying on things you may not usually. You leave with a gem, a treasure, a future heirloom or at the very least some good conversation which mutually often leads to a new perspective. The showroom is a different experience to a Pop Up more intimate more unusual. Beyond shopping.

QUESTION 4

Where do you go for / what do you do for inspiration?

I find inspiration finds me and often when I least expect it. The way something has been organised, signs and signposts, overheard conversation, the windows of vintage and second-hand shops ~ the true habitats of unsung stylists. Music and album covers particularly the stylised, nostalgic and avant-garde. NYC and Paris for clothing and introspection, and tapping into a future feeling.

QUESTION 5

Do you have a cherished object you would never part with? What is it & why?

I recently lost a 1970s snake ring that my mother had given me many years ago. I wore it on my little finger. She passed away last year and losing it feels pretty momentous. The fact that I would never have parted with it and it has gone, simply reminds me that so little is in our control. I also remind myself that on the same journey I lost the ring, I said out loud to my 4 year old I just love holding your hand as I squeezed it. The fact that I probably lost the ring mid squeeze has not escaped me. In the end, her little hand and my love of it is really all that matters. Someone suggested I had it copied (the ring not the hand) but I’m keen to leave a space for something else to step in, when the time is right.
